A man is dead after shots were fired as an officer investigated a theft call.
MONTGOMERY VILLAGE, Md. (AP) — Authorities in Maryland say a man is dead after shots were fired as an officer investigated a theft call.
Montgomery County police said in a statement Tuesday that an officer responding to a theft call in Montgomery Village on Monday night reported shots had been fired. A man with an apparent gunshot wound was taken to a hospital, where police say he died.
Police spokesman Capt. Paul Starks says investigators are trying to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting. He says a weapon was found, but he can’t say what kind. He says the officer should’ve been wearing an activated body camera.
Police say the officer will be on administrative leave and will be identified Tuesday. The man will be identified once relatives are notified. Starks says both were white.
