Extra police were called after a crowd gathered.
A Frederick man has been charged with several offenses including assault and resisting arrest following an incident Tuesday night along West All Saints Street. Trotez Jevon Leonard, 33, was taken into custody after a struggle with officers.
Police say they saw Leonard in possession of an alcoholic beverage in a public place. As they were attempting to issue him a citation, authorities say Leonard littered in front of officers. He resisted arrest, and struck one of the cops in the face with a closed fist, according to police. Authorities had to subdue him with a TASER and OC pepper spray.
While officers were trying to take Leonard into custody, a crowd gathered, and shouted profanities at officers. Because of the potential for civil unrest, Frederick Police requested assistance from the Sheriff’s Office and State Police.
After a short time, Leonard was taken from the scene and crowd dissipated. No other arrests were made.
Leonard is charged with intentionally causing physical injury to a police officer, littering, resisting arrest, 2nd-degree assault and disorderly conduct.
