Mt. Airy Man Arrested For Hit & Run, Fleeing From Police

He faces multiple charges in connection with both incidents.

 

Westminister, Md (KM) A Mount Airy man was apprehended Tuesday morning by State Police in Westminster following after fleeing a traffic stop in Carroll County. James Jonathan Crown, 36, was taken into custody and  is expected to face charges.

At around 11:00 AM on Tuesday, authorities say a state trooper assigned to the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division noticed a Honda traveling   along northbound Route 32 near Springfield Avenue in Carroll County,  crossing the double yellow line, attempting to pass other vehicles, and almost striking the trooper head-on.

The trooper, who was traveling southbound, turned on his emergency equipment and tried get the Honda to stop. The driver did not stop, and continued increased his speed, traveling at 45-miles per hour to 60-miles per hour along Route 32.

The trooper noticed front end damage on the Honda, and believed it matched the description of a vehicle involved in a hit and run in Howard County.

The driver of the Honda kept traveling on Route 32 near Nicodemus Road, where he entered a bean field. He bailed out of his car and fled on foot. But he was taken into custody.

State Police say that a hit and run that Crown was involved in occurred around 10:30 AM on Tuesday along westbound I-70 east of Route 29 in Howard County. A motorist contacted  police after her vehicle was rear-ended by the Honda. Both operators pulled over after the crash, but Crown fled the scene. No one was hurt.

The hit and run accident was investigated by the State Police Barrack in Waterloo, and troopers from the Westminster Barrack assisted in Crown’s apprehension. Assistance was provided by the Howard County Police.
