She teaches 6th grade science at Oakdale Middle School.
Frederick, Md (KM) The Maryland Association of Science Teachers has named April Clark as its Science Teacher of the Year for 2017. Clark currently teaches sixth grade science at Oakdale Middle School, but she began her career with the local school system at West Frederick Middle School in 2014. Prior to that, she taught science at two schools in Pennsylvania.
A statement from the Frederick County School System says that in just a few years after arriving in Maryland, Clark made “significant contributions” in the teaching of science. She wrote a curriculum for science in the FCPS Highly Able Learner program, and served as a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) leader . Clark chaired a school science department, coached a Maryland Science Olympiad team, coordinated a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Fair, and took part in the Catoctin Mountain National Park teacher ranger program.
“Mrs. Clark makes everyone at FCPS proud,” says Dr.Theresa Alban, Superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools, in a statement. “She fosters a love for science in her students by teaching and reaching and engaging them. She’s a great teacher.”
Clark was honored by MAST with a luncheon Friday, October 6th..
