He’s being held without bond.
Hagerstown, Md (KM). A Hagerstown man has been charged in connection with a homicide Tuesday night.
Officer Heather Aleshire, a Hagerstown Police Department spokeswoman, says officers were dispatched to 382 South Cleveland Avenue at around 7:00 PM for a report of an assault in progress. When they arrived, they located Suzanne Marie Jones, 43, of Hagerstown, suffering from multiple stab wounds. She was taken to Meritus Medical Center where she died from her injuries.
Officer Aleshire says police began looking for a suspect, described as an African-American male, wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a yellow tee-shirt over it, and blue jeans. He was seen running away from the area. A police canine track was conducted, but officers came up empty.
Authorities say further investigation led detectives to the Days Inn where they found the suspect, Jack Lee Phillips, 33, of Hagerstown, at around 1:45 AM on Wednesday. He was taken into custody without incident.
Phillips is charged with 1st-degree murder, 2nd-degree murder, robbery, 1st-degree assault and 2nd-degree assault.
Officer Aleshire says the motive for the murder remains under investigation. “At this time, we know that they were acquaintances,” she says, referring to both Jones and Phillips.
Phillips remains incarcerated without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.
