Promotes Screen-Free Week.
FREDERICK, MD. (LG) Students at 7 elementary schools in Frederick County will be taking a break away from televisions and computers for a whole week by participating in a pilot program. “The school system has signed an agreement to partner with The Original Playhouse, and we are very excited about it,” said Michael Doerrer, Communications Director.
TOP is a children’s museum with six themed, educational rooms and an outdoor garden playground, located in New Market, Md. “You know screens are great. They are useful for learning, but here in Frederick County Public Schools, for example, we teach a balanced approach. We use electronic devices, but we also use all other kinds of proven instructional methods to reach our students, so, this partnership kind of extends that, and speaks to that it has to be balanced,” continued Doerrer.
TOP will promote activities that are alternatives to watching television and playing electronic games by participating in Screen-Free Week, April 30-May 6.
