The deadline to apply is Friday, April 6th.
Frederick, Md (KM). The Frederick County Agricultural Land Preservation Program is now accepting applications from farmers who want to put their lands in the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation Easement program. Under the MALPF program, farmers sell their easements or development rights to the state which restricts development of prime farmland and woodland. The farmers receive payments and can continue to farm their properties.
Since the MALPF program began in 1977, more than 20,700 acres of agricultural land have been preserved in Frederick County.
MALPF was approved by the General Assembly in 1977, and is considered one of the most successful agricultural land preservation programs in the country, according to County officials.
Applications will be accepted by the Division of Planning and Permitting until Friday, April 6th at 4:00 PM.
Information about the program can be found at www.FrederickCountyMD.gov/agpres. Interested applicants can also contact Land Preservation Planner Shannon O’Neil at 301-600-1411, or by e-mail at [email protected].
