The credit cards were stolen from parked vehicles in parking lots of two Gaithersburg gyms.
GAITHERSBURG, MD. Detectives from the Montgomery County Police Department – 6th District Patrol Investigations Unit are investigating seven cases of credit card thefts that are believed to have been committed by the same two suspects. The thefts began on January 4 with the latest theft occurring on March 3. The credit cards were stolen from vehicles which were parked in the parking lots of two Gaithersburg gyms, the LA Fitness located at 314 Copley Place and the Life Time Athletic located at 10121 Washingtonian Boulevard. Today, investigators are releasing surveillance photographs of the suspects and are asking for the public’s help to identify them.
The following thefts of credit cards from vehicles were reported to the police:
- January 4 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of the LA Fitness.
- January 19 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of LA Fitness. The suspects attempted to fraudulently use the victim’s stolen credit cards at the Target store located at 25 Grand Corner Avenue in Gaithersburg.
- January 29 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of Life Time Athletic. The victim’s stolen cards were fraudulently used at various stores in the Gaithersburg area.
- February 5 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of LA Fitness.
- February 6 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of Life Time Athletic. The victim’s stolen cards were fraudulently used at the Best Buy store located at 10901 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton.
- February 13 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of LA Fitness. The victim’s stolen cards were fraudulently used at the Shell gas station located at 10003 Fields Road in Gaithersburg and at the Nordstrom Rack store located at 15760 Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg.
- March 3 – From a vehicle in the parking lot of the LA Fitness. The victim’s stolen cards were fraudulently used at the Macy’s store located at 8000 Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help to identify the male suspects who were captured on store surveillance using the victims’ stolen credit cards to purchase items.
Anyone with information about these suspects is asked to call the 6th District Patrol Investigations Unit at 240-773-5700 or call Crime Solvers of Montgomery County toll-free at 1-866-411-TIPS (8477). Crime Solvers will pay a cash reward of up to $10,000 for information provided to them that leads to the arrest and/or indictment of this suspect. Tipsters will remain anonymous.
