State Trooper Injured During Multi-Vehicle Crash On Northbound I-270

It closed the highway for several hours.

Frederick, Md (KM) Northbound Interstate 270 was closed for several hours on Thursday afternoon during rush hour following a multi-vehicle crash which injured five people, including a state trooper.

Maryland State Police say Trooper Joshua . Sorensen was in his cruiser along I-270 south of the Route 80 exit ramp investigating a minor crash when a tractor trailer driver, Ihab Oraha, 35, of Sterling Heights, Michigan, veered into the shoulder in an effort to stop for slowing traffic. The big rig hit the rear of a CHART vehicle.. It also struck a CHART truck and Trooper Sorensen’s cruiser. Then there was a chain reaction crash where the State Police cruiser was pushed forward, striking a Nissan operated by Biakhnuna Sailo of Frederick, which was forced into Mazda Protege operated by Daniel Miller, also of Frederick. . The tractor trailer then struck two passenger cars, .a Ford and a Nissan, as it crossed both lanes of northbound I-270.

The Ford passenger car was operated by Patrick Smith of Frederick. The Nissan was driven by Santhi Fedulla, of Stafford Texas.

The trooper, Mr. Sailo, Mr. Fedulla, Mr. Smith and Mr. Oraha, were transported by ambulance to Frederick Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic was being diverted while State Police conducted their investigation, and asĀ  the wreckage was being cleared.
