Gaithersburg, MD (KK) – Two people jumped from a second story window to escape a fire early Thursday morning. Fire officials say, around 5 a.m., firefighters were called to the 9200 block of Oriole Place in Gaithersburg. Pete Piringer, spokesman for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue, says it took more than a half hour to bring the flames under control. Several other families were displaced because of the fire, as well.
“The power has been shut off to a row of townhouses right now. All those families are displaced, at least temporarily. The investigation is continuing,” said Piringer.
The couple is expected to be okay. A firefighter was also taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries. About 100 firefighters were on the scene. Piringer estimates there was about $500,000 worth of damage.
