Frederick, MD (KK) – Maryland’s Comptroller released a list of businesses and individuals who collectively owe more than 12 million dollars to the state. Topping the list of businesses is the Sharpsburg Shell and Snax in Hagerstown. The business owes more than $1.6 million. GT Management Corporation in Mount Airy and Sportsman Hall LLC in Westminster also made the list.
Comptroller Peter Franchot says his employees have contacted these people and businesses and gave them several chances to pay.
“Look, it is an honor system. We can’t audit everybody, but we certainly can’t tolerate people who we know owe us money telling us to go jump in the lake which is kind of the message we get from these entities,” said Franchot.
