He was a 13-year veteran of the department
CLARKSVILLE, Md. (AP) — Authorities say a firefighter died after he fell through the floor at a burning Maryland home and was trapped for 22 minutes.
Howard County Fire Department spokesman Brad Tanner identified the firefighter as Nathan Flynn, a 13-year veteran of the department.
Officials say firefighters were called to the Clarksville home for reports of a home on fire after a lightning strike and three people inside the home got out safely.
As firefighters battled the flames inside the home, officials say Flynn fell through the floor. Tanner says Flynn was extricated 22 minutes after a mayday call sounded. Flynn was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Tanner says the cause of fire is under investigation.
Gov. Larry Hogan has ordered flags lowered to half-staff immediately.
