Frederick, MD (KK) – Starting October 1, Frederick residents’ yard waste will be picked up on the same day as their trash. In addition, all leaves must be in bags or reusable containers. In the past, the city collected loose leaves in the street. Mayor Michael O’Connor says this will reduce the impact on the city’s stormwater infrastructure.
“We’re trying to be mindful of, one, we have a permit from the state that we have to comply with and we’re trying to meet those requirements from the state, and the second thing is, we saw from the storms in May the impact that things other than stormwater in our stormwater systems can create problems with our storm system,” said O’Connor.
The change will be effective year round.
