Frederick Man Described As Major Cocaine Dealer Convicted

He’s expected to be sentenced in December.

 

Frederick, Md (KM) After two hours of deliberations Wednesday evening, a jury found a Frederick man described as a major cocaine dealer guilty of drug offenses. The panel convicted Brian Onley, 38, of possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy to  distribute narcotics.

State’s Attorney Charlie Smith says an investigation into Onley’s activities began in December, 2017 by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office. . “Surveillance units and other types of electronic surveillance {were} utilized to actually catch the defendant who was traveling in a vehicle with a large amount of narcotics in it,” he says.

On April 6th, 2018, a search and seizure warrant was served on Onley’s home in Hames Court in Frederick. Authorities found $27,566 in cash in the defendant’s bedroom closet, along with several cell phones. “Obviously, indicative of drug trafficking,” says Smith.

In addition, investigators searched a truck parked outside of Onley’s home,  and found a large paper bag behind the passenger’s which seat contained a digital scale, 131 grams of powder cocaine, and 28.5 grams of crack cocaine.

“Obviously, this was a long, drawn out investigation. Maryland State Police,  Frederick County Sheriff’s Office worked very hard on this case. We believe Mr. Onley to be a high volume dealer. There’s others that are going to stand trial for this as well, based upon the investigation,’ Smith says.

Onley was one of six people arrested in April by local authorities as they dismantled a major drug trafficking operation. 12 locations were served with search and seizure warrants.

Sentencing is scheduled for December 13th, and Smith says his office will be asking for substantial time in prison. “You’re talking about a businessman whose in it, whose dealing a lot of volume,” he says. “He’s in it for profit, for cash. That;’s what he’s in it for. Those are the type of people who deserve the harsh sentences.”

Following his conviction, the judge revoked Onley’s bond.
