Frederick, Md (KM) A major cocaine dealer is going to prison. Darnell Morris, 39, of Frederick was sentenced Wednesday in Frederick County Circuit court to 40-years behind bars, with all but ten-years suspended. The State’s Attorney’s Office says five of those ten years must be served without parole. When he’s released, Morris will be placed with five years supervised probation.
Morris pleaded guilty on October 25th, 2018 to distribution of cocaine in a large amount, and conspiracy to distribute cocaine, according to a news release from the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors say police began investigating Morris’ involvement in the distribution of cocaine in 2017. In February, 2018, detectives with the Frederick Police and the Sheriff’s Office were granted the authority to wire tap two mobile telephones being used by Morris.
On April 4th, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office, police intercepted communications which indicated that Morris was bringing in a large amount of cocaine. They also observed a second individual pick up the cocaine and take it to one of Morris’ associate’s home.
During the execution of a search and seizure warrant at Morris’ home on April 6th of this year, officers found $43,049 in cash. A search of an associate home netted 480-grams of cocaine. .
