Thurmont Man Nabbed For Convenience Store Robberies In Carroll County

He was apprehended in Pennsylvania.

 

Westminster, Md (KM) A Thurmont man apprehended in Pennsylvania early Saturday morning is a suspect in the robberies of two convenience stores in Carroll County. Jake Taliaferro Werlang, 26, was taken into custody in West Manheim after fleeing from police.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says Werlong is suspected of robbing the Jiffy Mart at 1155 South Main Street in Hampstead, and the Sheetz at 3281 Main Street in Manchester. In both instances, the suspect used a black and silver colored handgun,  and got away with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was described as a white male, 6-feet tall, wearing a black jacket, blue jeans and blue gloves.

After lookouts were broadcast to area police agencies, an officer with the West Mainheim Police spotted the suspect’s minivan.. Other officers pulled in behind it, and the driver sped away, committing several traffic violations. The driver bailed out of the vehicle and fled on foot, throwing down a handgun. Police were able to apprehend him. Authorities also recovered a black and silver handgun, along with the same clothing he was wearing during the robberies in Hampstead and Manchester.

Werlong is custody on charges in Pennsylvania.. Detectives with the Carroll Count Sheriff’s Office say they   will be applying for charges for the two holdups in Hampstead and Manchester.
