The victim was involved in speed contest before the accident
New Market, Md. (DG) – For the second time in less than 24-hours, Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal accident on Interstate 70 in New Market.
On Monday evening shortly before 8 p.m., troopers responded to I-70 westbound before Route 75 for a crash involving a motorcycle.
After arriving on scene police found the operator of the motorcycle, Dustin Michael Curtis, 19, had died from injuries sustained in the accident.
Investigators say Curtis was operating a 2004 Harley Davidson motorcycle when he lost control. Curtis laid the bike down, slid across the road surface, and into the guardrail.
Police say before the accident Curtis had been involved in a speed contest traveling westbound on Interstate 70 with at least two other vehicles. The drivers of those vehicles were taken to the Frederick Barrack for further interviews.
The Frederick County State’s Attorneys Office also responded to the accident.
Police are continuing their investigation.
