Frederick, Md (KM) Three recent shootings since August 31st in Frederick remain under investigation. Michelle Bowman, a spokeswoman for Frederick Police, say authorities are taking these incidents very seriously. “We have extra patrols. We’re encouraging people to call us if they see something suspicious or out of character,” she says That “out of character” could include someone wearing a hoodie or a long sleeve shirt on a warm evening.
The shootings occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 31st in the 600 block of North Market Street. Police have arrested Bryant McMillion, 34, for shooting four people at that time.
Another shooting occurred in the 300 block of Heather Ridge Drive, which led to lockdowns at the Heather Ridge School, and Monocacy Elementary and Middle Schools. Even though that shooting occurred near a school., Bowman says parents should not be afraid to send their children to school each day. “These incidents are not random incidents. We’re looking into every lead that we have, and we want parents to feel safe, and secure knowing that their children are safe in our schools,” she says.
The most recent shooting took place early Sunday morning, in the areas of 4th and North Market Streets.
Bowman says detectives with the Frederick Police have been working “around the clock” to try to identify a suspect or suspects in these shootings. Anyone who has information is asked to come forward. She says they’re especially interested in citizens who live near where the shootings took place and have front porch cameras. They could have recorded something suspicious or unusual the day of the shootings. “If you have doorbell system and you may have caught something in the area around these shootings, please call us and we’ll come and look at your videos to see if they’re something we can utilized,” says Bowman.
Citizens can call Detective Mike Irons at 240-674-8942. They can also remain anonymous and call the Frederick Police Tip Line at 301-600-TIPS (8477),or send a text messages to 240-674-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be sent by e-mail to [email protected].
Bowman says there have been some tips coming in, but she wouldn’t say how many. “At this point, we’re not releasing how many we have gotten,” says Bowman. “We have gotten people who seen certain things that may have looked out of character to them, and have called that in. So the detectives are going through any bits of information the we’re getting in.”
