Part Of Broad Run Rd In Jefferson To Be Closed Late In September

Culvert work will be done in that area.

Jefferson, Md (KM) The Maryland State Highway Administration will be closing parts of Broad Run Road (Md. 383) in Jefferson during the weekends of September 27th, and October 4th. Spokesman Charlie Gischlar says the closures will occur beginning at 7:00 PM Fridays, and continue through 5:00 AM on Mondays, and will cover Broad Run Road from east of Saint Marks Road, and west  of Corun Road.

He says crews will be replacing culverts. “Now these are these existing metal pipes that are really old and carry branches of Catoctin Creek underneath Broad Run Road,” says Gischlar. “They’re nearing the end of their service life and need replacement.”

During the closures, traffic will be deferred to Jefferson Pike (Md. 180), US 340 and Burkittsville Road (Md. 17).

SHA says work will resume on Broad Run Road after those closures, but under a flagging operation.

“The  new pipes are being an elliptical, reinforced concrete pipes,” says Gischlar. “It’s a $350,000 project and that also includes paving and striping Broad Run Road within those project limits.”

The project is expected to be completed by the end of November, SHA says.

Gischlar says abut 2,000 motorists use that stretch of Broad Run Road everyday.
