Frederick, Md (KM) Motorists who travel the area where Interstate 70 and 270 connect will be experiencing some night time closures this weekend. State Highway Administration spokesman Charlie Gischlar says crews doing some routine maintenance work on the I-70 bridge over I-270 noticed one of the joints coming loose.
He says crews will be doing some emergency repairs on the bridge starting at 9:00 PM Sunday, September 29th, and continuing until Monday, September 30th at 7:00 AM.
Some parts of those two highways will be closed while work is underway. “That’s going to be westbound I-70, the left lane closed. But most importantly here is that dual lane ramp that comes off of northbound I-270 to access westbound I-70 will also be closed,” says Gischlar. The contractor, PDI Sheetz, Inc., of LInthicum, will use barrels and arrow boards to guide motorists through the work zone.
He says motorists can us Urbana Pike (Md. 355), Buckeystown Pike (Md. 85) and US 15/340 as alternates.
The repair is expected to take up to two nights to complete, according to SHA.
