Frederick, Md (KM) The nomination process is now open for high school sophomores and juniors who are interested in serving as the student representative on the Frederick County Board of Education. The student representative will bring a student viewpoint on education issues during Board of Ed meetings which are usually held twice a month.
The deadline to apply is Friday, November 1st at 4:00 PM..
Interested sophomores and juniors should contact their student government adviser for a nomination packet, or they can go on line to http://www.fcps.orga/boe/Student-Board-Member-Election, Student government advisers and principals can also nominate a student.
The selection process begins when the Frederick County Association of Student Councils Board and Student Government Association Advisers will review each of the applicants on November 8th. A candidate orientation is scheduled for November 13th, and each of the candidates will present speeches at the December 10th Frederick County Association of Student Councils General Assembly. Then at a January 16th meeting, each candidates will answer questions at a town hall format at the School System’s Central Office Board Room from 5:00 PM to:30 PM.
Middle and high school students will get the chance to vote on line between January 17th and February 7th The voting will determine who the SGA will support during the February 20th General Assembly.
The Frederick County Association of Student Councils will submit the name of the student representative to the Superintendent. That person will have received a majority of the representative votes cast by school delegates.
The new School Board student representative will begin his or her term in July, 2020. The new representative will have an opportunity to shadow the current student representative during May and June, 2020.
