SHA To Begin Patching, Paving Operation Friday Along Route 85

Motorists can expect single lane closures.

Frederick, Md (KM) The Maryland State Highway Administration says this Friday, October 18th, crews will begin a project to improve Route 85 (Buckeystown Pike) between English Muffin Way and FIngerboard Route (Rt. 80) Spokesman Charlie Gischlar says it will be a paving and patching operation. “So it’s not quite total resurfacing. But what we’re doing is going in and removing large sections of damaged roadway and patching it with some asphalt,” he says. “That way before winter, we give the almost 6700 people that drive that road everyday a nice surface before the winter hits.”

Gischlar says motorists can expect single lane closures from 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday, with some Saturday hours as needed. Flag persons will also be in place to direct traffic.

There is a railroad crossing along that stretch of Route 85, and Gishclar says SHA will be working with CSX Transportation. “We always coordinate when there’s a rail crossing there to make sure everybody is safe:   both the train operator and also our work crews out there,” he says.

Motorists are urged to be patient while work is underway. “So just give yourself a couple extra minutes. It’s going to be a flagging operation with some flag persons down there. An extra ten-minutes of commute time should suffice during this project,”: says Gischlar.

He says the project is expected to be completed by mid- or late November at a cost of $915,000.

The contractor for this project is FO Day of Rockville, Md.
