Former Frederick Mayor Dies

Paul Gordon was 92.

 

 

Frederick, Md (KM) A former Mayor of Frederick has died. Paul Gordon passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.

He was elected Mayor in 1989, defeating long time incumbent Ron Young. He served in the post from 1990 to 1994.

Prior to serving as Mayor, Gordon had spentĀ  nine years on the Frederick Planning Commission, resigning in 1989 to run for Mayor.

In addition, Gordon and his wife, Rita, researched and wrote several books on the Civil War, and the history of the Jewish people in Frederick County.

According to his obituary, Gordon was born on May 23rd, 1927 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He lived with his family on South Market Street, and graduated from Frederick High in 1944. Gordon attended the University of Maryland in 1944 before joining the US Army, serving in Belgium and Germany. After World War II, he returned to the University of Maryland, graduating in 1950 with a B.S. in accounting.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday at Beth Sholom Congregation at 1011 North Market Street beginning at 2:00 PM . Gordon will be interred at the Garden of Solomon in Frederick.
