They went paddling in a canoe on the Chesapeake Bay and didn’t return to shore.
Annapolis, Md (KM) A search has been underway since Thursday along the Chesapeake Bay near Anne Arundel for a daughter and grandson of former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Kennedy Townsend.
Authorities say Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean and her son Gideon Joseph Kennedy McKean, age 8, went paddling in a canoe on Thursday on the Chesapeake Bay and didn’t return.
During his Friday news conference on the coronavirus, Governor Larry Hogan said the search is being conducted by Maryland Natural Resources Police, the State Police, the US Coast Guard and the Anne Arundel County Fire Department. Natural Resources Police say a capsized canoe fitting the description of the one they were in was found They also say the pair may have paddled out into the water from Shady Side to retrieve a ball, but couldn’t get back.
“I reached out and spoke with Lt. Gov. Townsend this morning {Fri} and on behalf of the people of Maryland I expressed ourĀ heartfelt sympathies to her and her entire family during this difficult time,” Governor Hogan said to reporters during his news conference.
Kathleen Kennedy-Townsend served a Lieutenant Governor for two terms under Governor Parris Glendenning. She ran unsuccessfully for Governor in 2002.
She is the eldest daughter of Robert F. Kennedy.
