It’s part of $1.4-million in grants awarded across the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.

Annapolis, Md (KM) The Town of Emmitsburg is one of 25 jurisdictions and organizations receiving a Green Streets, Green Jobs and Green Towns Grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust. Emmitsburg will be getting $15,000 to create a high performing green street conceptual plan to reduce stormwater runoff and pollution while incorporating flood hazard mitigation.

This is part of grants totaling $1.4-million coming from the Trust, which managed the “Protect the Chesapeake” license plate program.

The funds are being awarded by the trust in partnership with the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

Also receiving a grant is the Town of Barnesville in Montgomery County. It’s been awarded $14,960 for developing a green infrastructure concept design to address one-inch stormwater runoff into local waterways with rain gardens, biolswales and street trees. The actual  project is  expected to reduce discharge into local waterways, eliminate property damage and improve aesthetics.

The Trust says it awarded these grants throughout the Chesapeake Bay Watershed to help communities develop plans to reduce runoff, increase the amount of green spaces in urban areas and improve the health of local waterways, and ultimately, the Chesapeake Bay. The projects span the states of Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
