The Shop Maryland For The Holidays Campaign Is Back

Frederick, MD (KB) Small businesses across the nation have had a tough year because of the pandemic. Maryland Comptroller Peter Franchot said his agency is trying to help and is kicking off the “Shop Maryland for the Holidays” annual event to promote local shopping.

“It doesn’t have to be a lot, it could be a $25 gift card you buy,” said Franchot. “I guarantee it’s an expression of support and loyalty during a really tough time where literally tens of thousands of small businesses are just hanging on by their fingernails,” he continued.

Residents looking to support small businesses are still advised to socially distance and wear a mask if they choose to shop in-person.

“Those people that are not in high risk categories who want to go down in person, I think, can go down knowing that the small businesses are going to be rational and protective,” explained Franchot.

This year, the campaign has partnered with Maryland and DC Credit Unions to offer incentives to members who use their Credit Union credit cards to shop locally.

The annual event kicked off earlier this year due to COVID-19 and the urgent need to support local retail and restaurant communities. The holiday event will run from November through February.
