Maryland’s Electoral College Casts Its Votes For Biden & Harris

The votes now go to the President of the US Senate.

Annapolis, Md (KM) Maryland made it official on Monday. In a meeting that was live-streamed, the state’s Electoral College cast all ten of Maryland electoral votes for Democrats Joe Biden for President, and Kamala Harris for Vice President.

The votes will be certified by Governor Larry Hogan before being sent off to the Nation’s Capitol where they will be opened and read on January 6th, 2021 by the President of the US Senate, Vice President Mike Pence.

“The peaceful transition of power that we formally take part in here today is a hallmark of our democracy that has been handed for more than 220 years,” said Governor Hogan, who spoke before the Electoral College cast its votes.

“At times, it has been tested; sometimes even questioned.. But it’s a reminder that despite our differences, we are united as Americans who honor the will of the people through the greatest and most enduring democratic process that the world has even known,” Hogan continued.

Gloria Lawlah, the President of the Electoral Collège, made the motion to elect Joe Biden as President. She said Biden will make the country a better place. “It is a repudiation of hate; a repudiation of divisiveness. It’s an affirmation of benevolence; an affirmation of unity,” she said.

The Secretary of the Electoral College, Kathleen Matthews, made the motion to support Harris for Vice President. “The 2020 election, as you’ve heard, was an historic election with the highest turnout in our history, a record 8.1-million votes for President-elect Biden, and Vice President-elect Harris, nationally,” she said. “They won our state of Maryland by more than any other presidential ticket in our history.”

In November, the Biden-Harris ticket won 65.4% of the vote in Maryland; Incumbent President Donald Trump vote 32.2% of the vote, according to the Associated Press.
