Frederick, Md (KM) New round of grants is being made available for small businesses in Frederick County which have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. At her public information briefing on Thursday, County Executive Jan Gardner said these grants total $3-million.

She says past small business grants have been for companies in certain industries, such as the hospitality industry, and not every business  qualified. “This small business grants I’m announcing today {Thursday} will help retail stores, personal services such as barbershops, hair salons, nail salons, some of our agricultural operations, and more,”: she said.

Gardner said there are qualifications each applicant must meet. “To be eligible, a  for-profit business must be located in Frederick County, must have been operating prior to October 1st, 2020, and must have 50 or fewer employees both part time and full  time,” she says.

Applications are being taken now. The deadline is Friday, June 25th, 2021 at 3:00 PM. “Small businesses grants will be offered on two tiers based on the number of people that the business employs,” Gardner says. “Grant funds will be awarded and money will be shifted into bank accounts by the end of August. So it’s a quick turnaround time.”
