76 fire fighters fought the flames.
Hagerstown, Md (KM) Three fire fighters were injured battling a garage fire in Washington County Tuesday morning.
Fire and rescue officials say the 911 Center began receiving calls just after 10:15 AM about a fire at 17847 Carter Lane in the Hagerstown areas. Units from Hagerstown, Funkstown, Fairplay, Halfway and Williamsport responded. Funkstown fire fighters arriving just before 10:30 AM saw a large column of smoke, and requested additional apparatus and personnel.
A large garage building with a carport and a motorhome parked inside was heavily engulfed in flames.
Three fire fighters were injured A Department of Emergency Services fire fighter was flown by State Police Helicopter to the Burn Center at Medstar Washington Hospital Center with 1st, 2nd and 3rd-degree burns to his upper torso and legs. . The other two from Williamsport and Halfway Volunteer Fire Departments were taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center with minor injuries. No civilians were hurt. .
Fire companies from Washington and Frederick Counties in Maryland, and Berkeley County in West Virginia responded, bringing the total number of fire fighters at the scene to 76. . Water was provided by fire hydrants at the scene, and tankers. It took two hours for fire fighters to bring the flames under control. They contained the fire to the building of origin. .
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the cause of the fire was accidental due to an electrical failure. Damage is estimated at $150,000. .
